Hi, I'm Amanda, I own Chelmer Cycles.
My goal is to to get more women cycling. I am cyclist, marathon runner, rower, fitness and nutrition expert. As a woman I know how intimidating it can be to walk into a bike shop, whether you are an experienced cyclist or just starting out, so I would be delighted to guide you in any way I can.
In our shop we have a range of women specific bikes that I'd love you to test ride before making your next purchase. As well as bikes we have a full range of women's clothing, shoes & helmets, and we offer a range of female specific bike fit options too. I'm here to help you get the most from your cycling so please feel free to get in touch on 01245 287600 or firstname.lastname@example.org
I look forward to meeting you.
We Get It!
At Chelmer cycles we get it because our store is owned by a female cyclist!
We know you need a bike suited to you, clothing that fits you and a saddle suitable to your anatomy. We take into account the differing needs of women, however or whatever you ride, from park riding to a top race or time trial bike. A bike that suits you.
We get this, not because we've read the manual, but because we don't make assumptions.
Not only do we stock a full range of female specific bikes, apparel and accessories but we are able to advise, based on personal experience.
We understand what actually works.
Female Specific Geometry
In general women are smaller with different bodyweight distribution, a shorter reach, narrower shoulders with smaller hands and a lower centre of gravity. A female specific bike takes these points into account.
Typically a female bike has a more angled toptube near the saddle, i.e. a lower stepover, shorter reach and narrower handlebars. However the really critical area is the saddle as women tend to sit further back.
So it's about sizing, fit, geometry and contact points and a lot of women still choose standard unisex bikes with female specific saddles, and/or narrower handlebars, and brakes adapted for shorter reach for example.
All in all a female bike is another option.
Our largest range of female specific bikes come from Cannondale. We expect you to test ride to ensure you are making the right decision.
Female Specific Clothing
With the wrong clothing a nice ride can quickly turn into a nightmare. Typically unisex or mens clothing is cut longer in the back, longer in the arms and shorter in the legs, with padding in all the wrong places!
High quality, well fitting female specific clothing allows you to ride in more comfort. Meaning further and faster.
